Just an FYI here is the sequence of events when deeling with multiple ships.
When you buy a new ship and store the old one, all your stuff from the previous ship is moved to the new ship.
When you switch back to the old ship it is empty, so you need to be sure and buy an escape pod, mine deflectors etc. When you do this and switch ships again, you will notice that all your stuff remains.
The only time your pod, deflectors etc is switched is at the purchase point. Swityching ships leaves everything intact.
