 Post subject: a proposed addition to the game?

I would make the suggestion for the game.. it could have a beneficial effect, maybe.. it depends on how it has and effect on the server load ..... but here it goes.

1) add a new commodity produced by the colonist on the planet, called bio waste, and a new port too
to sell it to.
a) the bio waste port would in turn produce a viral cloud of gas, that is deadly to colonist and
dangerous to ships.
1) the cloud would move about like the debris around the universe.. no place safe.
2) if your ship runs into the cloud while hoping around the universe it takes damage if you have
no power to power up the shields.
a) a side benefit is that the little guy could use a sector missle to attack a player who is
hoping around the universe searching ect.
3) if the vurial cloud moves into a sector where you have planets it will infect the colonist and
kill them and if it kill say a set % the remaining colonist will destroy the planet to prevent
the spread of the virus.
a) it would infect all planets in the sector.
b) the item that would stop this is bio medical commodity.
1) you would only need a small % of bio medical on the planet to prevent infection.
and destruction of the planet.
2) make the bio medical ports scarce and very valuable. or at least very few..
a) side effect.. reduce the number of planets if they ain't protected if the cloud
shows up... could be the cloud comes around more often when you have more
planets.
c) dignitaries, spies, could destroy or steal the bio medical commodity makeing planets
vulnerable.
d) could create a probe also that spread the virus killing colonist if not protected.

this is one idea.. dunno what it would take to make it happen but sure make a twist in the game.

second thought.
A) create space pirates something for players to attack instead of each other.
1) this could reduce the need to hunt the little player if other things are out there to hunt.
2) make it profitable. something worth doing besides needing a ton of planets to make cash.
3) make some various strength pirate planets as well. players move about more.. hit virial cloud
and get sector missled while having power on board so they don't ship damage from virus.
B) also on the same line of thought space creatures to hunt that are profitable
1) they would move about like the debris...




as I said.. no clue what it would take.. would it make the things the server does even more over loaded?? dunno... it could add a new dynamic to the game.

also another Idea....
be able to buy a life insurance policy on players.
buy a the $10 version get $15 when/if the person dies.
buy a $ 1 trill policy.. get 1.5 trill in return..( just random numbers picked for example purpose)
it would only pay if the person dies hitting sd's dong a&r, getting killed while attacking a planet
or killed in ship to ship combat.
it would not pay if a team member takes the policy out on another team member who is constantly gettting killed.
it would not pay if the person who owns the policy on the person that lost ship to ship with the policy holder.. same for attacks on planets, and hitting sd's.. if you own the ship, planet, sd's, and policy.. and the player gets killed. you don't collect.

We actually had thought about a similar item for research and build (if we ever get it done) But your concept is pretty interesting... Note planets with the new commodities are very rare so its gonna be hard to get a planet that produces them, so would be tough to have a planet to drop bio medical on.

The new commodities after the reset will be much more rare. Your going to find people start hoarding ports for the best paying ones. But if you get planets to produce em, your gonna make a ton of dough. ;) Next round is gonna be interesting.

We have talked about NPC's (non player characters) for a long time. In fact early games actually had a rudimentary AI and we hunted them. But they also would attack your stuff. PJ was even working on them during this game I think. So expect to see a NPC someday, don't expect them over night though.

There is a surprise coming... that's all I can say... but its gonna be cool. We talked over some plans for it at lunch and its gonna be evilly addictive.

Interesting idea. Kind of goes in hand with the stockmarket Idea I had a while back. Insurance is like betting on people.. And there are some people that you can guarantee they will die... The key is the cost of insurance goes up based on the number of deaths a person has and the payout goes down... The big payouts go for the guys that survive the longest. I think if you take out an insurance policy maybe have a maturity date... this is a date you have to hold it for to claim the gain. Just some ideas to go with yours ;)
