When creating the game for the first time the settings are being updated correctly, but after that changes are not set correctly in the DataBase. Here is where I was updating the Alliance settings:

Updating config variable: 1 = 10
Updating config variable: : = 0
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: S =
Updating config variable: y =
Updating config variable: s =
Updating config variable: t =
Updating config variable: e =
Updating config variable: m =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: E =
Updating config variable: m =
Updating config variable: a =
Updating config variable: i =
Updating config variable: l =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: L =
Updating config variable: o =
Updating config variable: g =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =
Updating config variable: =

I cannot change anything once the game is created. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game to verify this and continue to run into this issue. I have seen no errors during install and game play is working fine otherwise.

Thanks!

Did you update them via the admin after your install? Or were you trying to update them by hand?

The updates were through the admin.php tool. I have not done anything by hand.

Did you try anything other than the alliance settings? I dont thing additional NPC Ships are enabled so that maybe the issue. The factor is primarily for alliance port pricing.

Ya may need to wait till PJ gets back from Holiday to verify.

Note: I believe these settings may be in a file as its quicker to load the file rather than pull the data from the database all the time. That file is updated in the support folder and is called variables0 for game 0 if you have setup a single game.

Apparently there is something odd in your PHP configuration. You need to cut and past the install information from the installer.php for your server so we can see what the settings are like.

I bet it is caused by one of these three settings.

Safe Mode Disabled - Safe Mode should be enabled for better security.
Register Globals Enabled - This should be disabled. The game will still execute but there are no guarantees.
Magic_quotes_gpc Enabled - Auto Backslash Stripping enabled for $_GET, $_POST, $_COOKIE and $_FILES global variables. (Magic_quotes_gpc should be disabled for better variable handling)

More than likely it is it Register Globals causing the problem. It should always be disabled. I bet it is causing variable conflicts by being enabled. As it says "The game will still execute but there are no guarantees.".

If the installer tells you something should be disabled or enabled you should probably make those changes.

I was afraid of that. I cannot control those settings on the hosting provider I'm using. Fortunately the rest of the system seems to be working great.

Thanks Again!

Check with your host. Some of them are setup to allow each site to have their own php.ini file. This will allow each site to set their own PHP configuration.
