We have been making a lot of changes and performing hundreds of tests on the new commodities over the past couple of weeks. We have had to make some significant changes in the entire port pricing backend. We found that prices for Ore and Goods outstripped pricing for any other commodity. If the game ran long enough (close to a year) Ore and Goods would be worth more than Ship Hulls. :p So we had to revise the port price increase values for every commodity and the queries for increasing port prices. This has also required a complete rewrite of how ports are created with the Create Universe, Sector Genesis, Add Commodity and Expanding Universe programs.

Players will also notice that many commodities have had their prices or hold space increased. This was done to increase the cost per hold ratios so higher priced commodities would have a higher cost per hold. This means far more profit. Many of the new commodities had a cost per hold of less than .01 credit per hold while goods/ore was over 25 credits per hold. This ment the new commodities were totally useless for trading.

You will find a graphic attached that shows the default pricing and cost per hold for all commodities. The new port price increase values will keep the percentage range about the same between all commodities. This means the higher cost per hold items will be even more valuable for trading than ore or goods over time.

The values in the graph are the base values and if you want to get an idea as to what the profit potential range might be between buhying and selling you can take the price of an item and subtract 40% from the price to get the average starting sell price. Now add 40% to the default price to get the average buy price. As you can see the more expensive items have some huge profit potential compared to ore and goods.

We will be monitoring how these price changes affect the game over the next week and may tweak them.

We will be reseeding and aging all of the ports sometime today.
