Tarnus decided we should post this change to how Sector Defense works.

We have a number of checks to prevent larger players from exploiting smaller players through a bounty system. Most of these checks are on all attacks to any players resources.

An example is doing an Attack and Run on sector defense. If a player would get a bounty when attacking any of the planets in the sector then their A&R is completely useless. They basically lose all of their fighters and torps while the SD attacks them.

Unfortunately the same wasn't true for normal straight forward attacks on sector defense.

Larger players were exploiting this fault by completely wiping out any small players sector defense and then calling in a smaller player to attack the planets. It basically made it totally USELESS for any small player to spend money on placing sector defense. Why should they when any large player would wipe it all out easily. In other words it was virtually a waste of money for the smaller player. Sure it kept out the other smaller players but that wouldn't save them for long. The smaller players were learning to call in a friendly big player to help them out by wiping out the SD for them.

This was very unbalanced and too much of an exploit. It was also completely inconsistent with how combat worked in the game.

So we basically move 4 lines of code from the A&R to the normal SD Attack. When a player attacks Sector Defense the SAME bounty checks are used as an A&R attack. This means a high ranked player can no longer attack a low ranked players SD and do any damage to them if they would get a bounty attacking the low ranked players planets.

What kinda of warning system will be in place BEFORE you execute a A&R on someone's SD? The normal scan warning you get with "Bounty" under the planet names?

What about War Zones? Are those free-for-all?

No warning other than doing an A&R to see what happens. You are in another sector. Kind of hard to scan a planet through a warp link. ;)

War Zones are basically free for alls but you still have the bounty checks. Everyone can attack anyone in their bounty range. The only restriction in a War Zone is you cannot use any port in the War Zone. So you can't do a quick dock at a port in the War Zone to replenish something.

Also, you can't do a traderoute to a War Zone because the port is blockaded.
